Personality:
Time changed William from emotionless, to whiny and bratty, to emotionless and sarcastic. His personality changed so drastically it shocked even his Pokemon. When he left for college to recover from heartbreak, he found even more of it. He is now quiet, sarcastic, holding a blank, emotionless face that always seems cold and distant to people except those he trust. Like his family, and his own child. Other wise he stays blank and talks with a little bit of constant sarcasm in his voice, only giving a dry, empty chuckle to strangers and those he doesn't trust or doesn't like. When around his family, he changes from having to emotion to being distant in a sad way. He's lonely, he's in pain, and he wants it to stop. Yet he refuses to get out there and do something about it, despite anyone's pleas, even the pleas of his own child. He thinks he is fine and doesn't need anything, burying himself into his work to keep himself distracted. Due to this, he tends to lose a lot of sleep, and his nightmares don't help.
After the reverse operation, William has been cursed with horrid nightmares every other night, not being able to stop them. He screeches out in his sleep and struggles to escape, but he can't go anywhere. Thankfully, his son has learned how to calm him and tries his best to keep his father well rested. Yet thanks to the nightmares, William has gotten into the habit of not sleeping, forcing himself to be an insomniac. He doesn't eat often and tends to take more smoking breaks than he needs to, saying everyday he'll quit, only to start smoking again. It is the only thing that helps him to relax. He's gained a small cough, which doesn't bother him usually. It doesn't affect his breeding, since he follows his father's strict rule of never smoking near the Pokemon. If anything, William only does it when he isn't working or on his break, and even then he never does it in the home. He doesn't joke around much, and if he does it is with his child or one of his own siblings. Otherwise, he tends to try and not talk to anyone, wanting to be left alone, especially while working. Everything else about him is simple. He is broken and alone, but refuses to see it for himself.
History:
The same old story just a tad bit different, right? William's earliest memories were at an orphanage. It was there he learned he had a love of books and reading, spending more of his time in the library than he did with the other children. He had problems showing his emotions to others. He kept a blank, bored expression the whole time and never wanted to be bothered by others, just wanting to put himself into the world of his books. They were worlds he understood better than the one he lived in. He stayed in the orphanage for so many years he figured he would never get out until he was allowed to leave by his age. Yet at the age of nineteen, a week before he was going to be sent out, Arceus smiled down on him. He was supposed to leave the orphanage at eighteen, but he had yet to learn how to show and treat his emotions and how to tell what others are feeling by facial expressions, so the nuns decided to try and teach him. They failed, however, but William was thankfully taken into a family.
Once Mirun adopted him, William decided to ask why. He never got a straight answer, but he knows why now. Mirun felt sorry for him, and felt like William deserved a chance at a family he never had, regardless of his age. For that, William is grateful. His first experience with family was a growling younger brother that was making it obvious he was in charge. William, at first, was confused and asked Mirun why there wasn't a seniority ranking in the household, he got a chuckle and a hair ruffle. It was obvious after the first day when they had their first fight. Mirun let them settle things like boys and duke it out. Literally. Kanashi won that first fight over something so small, William doesn't even remember, but he did remember when they were glaring at each other, Mirun said 'the bloodiest one gets to come back in'. William got to go back in for treatment. He understood little about the world, and even though he was an adult, he wasn't ready to go out on his own, that much was obvious to Mirun. Kanashi, however, was staying to get training in taking over the business, something he didn't want to do at the time.
William decided to be a steel breeder and his collection quickly grew over time, especially with the help of one of his exes. He had too many Pokemon, yet he was attached to them all. Of course he parted with some that he knew would be in good hands, but some of them stayed with him at all times as his buddies. Despite learning about emotions and coming to the point where he showed to many of them, Mirun still refused to tell him about his parents even though Mirun said William would know when 'he was older' and 'more mature'. More fights happened between Kanashi and William, especially after William went through a dangerous procedure to become a Gijinka. The two brothers clashed more and more, and not even their sister could stop them or Mirun. It finally got to the point it wasn't even a fight for dominance between the two, it was just a beating. Kanashi won every time, and the last fight they had resulted in him snapping William into shape and getting him to behave more.
Time passed filled with some heartbreak and William taking a leap no one in his new family expected him to. He wanted to leave, to go to another Region, to attend college. Alone. Mirun was shocked but he was good at hiding it, thought about it for a day, then told William when his three children were watching TV that he had sent the boy's résumé off to one of the most prestigious colleges in Hoenn. After Mirun gave the news, he took William to the jungle and let him talk with Maia about reversing the Gijinka procedure. She said since he was once human and it wasn't done with current science and science that was over a hundred years old that it was possible, yet it would require bringing his body back from the dead and ripping the Pokemon in him out. Very painful, and it would leave him with a few issues. A prolonged life span was one of them. Not too long, but longer than a normal human since parts of the ghost would still be latched into his DNA. Then the other was unknown. William asked his father why he wouldn't do it, and the man was quiet. It was the Dark Father that answered it, the leader of the cult being in the lab at the time. It was simple why Mirun didn't want to partake. William had a high chance of dying, yet the Dark Father would try his best to prevent that, and to drag his body back to life.
Mirun was present during the procedure, yet William was present in mind. Even though his body was paralyzed by medicine. He had to be awake, and even then the results of him being human were not promised. Benjamen, someone William recognized from pictures in Kanashi's room and wallet, was there acting as a nurse. The Dark Father was also present, thankfully the lab was large enough to hold him. The procedure started, and as soon as the machine that would part their DNA was turned on, it was horrible pain. Even the medicine that prevented him from moving wasn't working to keep him from struggling. It took Mirun and Benjamen both to keep him from trying to struggle away. Once the machine was done twisting his DNA, Maia went to work with the many needles that would 'cleanse' his DNA, and force the Haunter DNA out. The operation itself took forty-six hours, including William going through a sickness of him vomiting up black sludge which, according to Maia, was his body reverting back to being human, for the most part. He was put into recovery at home for a few days, with Kanashi and Benjamen fawning over him while his father worked even harder than before, probably to distract himself from the fact one of his own kids could have died.
It was less than a week later until William was accepted. He packed his bags and left without a goodbye to anyone but his family, knowing that Mirun would make sure no one knew where he went unless they were close family friends. The plane ride was something William didn't enjoy, but he did have his Poochyena with him that stirred up some old memories besides the name and where he got it. Yet he changed the dog's name, adding a first name to him, only referring to the dog by that. Baron was also with him, yet in his pokeball, the Braixen excited for William to be getting a new start. The college was really fancy, unlike what William expected, and had a harsh reminder about how much money his family actually had. It was funny to think Mirun could afford this, when he never talked about their savings before. They certainly didn't live in a fancy place in the best of neighborhoods, and he thought the facility was supported by the government for the most part.
William had his puppy and his fox out with him when he registered his name as a freshman and went to his dorm, meeting his roommate. It was a good-looking fellow who he quickly became good friends with. Blond hair, blood red eyes, yet a confusing personality. William liked it. They went to parties and even attended a few of the same classes, William loving people and then having his heart broken by them. It was life, according to his best friend. Over time, Lord the Mightyena evolved, and so did Baron the Braixen. Both reaching their final stages. He even obtained Reno from his best friend. Classes were fine and he didn't return home for four years, staying at the campus and working at a local cafe. Throughout that time, he matured and fell back into being emotionless and slightly sarcastic, with everyone but his best friend, who could read William like a book, and the only person there William gave an honest smile to.
In his third year, William met his feeling head on that he tried to force down, feelings of the people he loved back at home. One he didn't want to see anymore and the other... he took up smoking in the process, as more of a nervous habit than anything. He kept the smell off of him for the most part, even if it lingered sometimes, and finally, he met someone that changed his life. His father adopted William because he was sorry for him, and wanted the chance for him to have a family. William did the same thing one day. There was a group of orphans out at the park, the nuns there, too. William remembered things like this when he was in the orphanage, it was a good time for potential parents to see the kids and to adopt them. Yet there was one boy that looked a little like William that struck a chord in the man's heart. His best friend wondered what was up, and it was then William asked the nuns about the boy playing with the Pokemon, instead of the other kids. They answered him, and a week later, William moved out of the dorm and into an apartment with his best friend and new child. Of course William wrote to Mirun about it, always writing to his family, especially his sister. He never knew why he was so mean to her before, she was a sweet thing.
Mirun agreed and accepted it, sending a little more money for him. It wasn't too much, since William got there on scholarship anyway, and worked for his own food, but Mirun wanted to offer his help. While William attended class, his Pokemon watched over the kid. Usually his whole team stayed behind while William worked, poor Samuel finally passing away. William contacted his father and got instructions for the burial for the old Pokemon. While William's child attended school, William and his best friend taught him more than the teachers ever did. Then the final year came and William graduated with all honors and got his bachelor's in Pokemon Science and in literature. He minored in history and music, and did a side course of art. He wrote home that he wanted to return to Phoenix, said good-bye to his best friend and grabbed his kid and left. Once he arrived, he spent two weeks at the facility with his kid taking the guest room, until William got an apartment, working for his father as an actual employee. He got payed for it, and continued to be a breeder, just this time getting paid for his work.
He put his kid into school but soon pulled him out since the education of the nearest institute wasn't up to par to his past school. William decided to teach his son himself, and asked Kanashi and Rose for assistance. They both happily agreed. Between work and home, William was happy. He had his facility which he could live in, but like with Mirun, he only did that when he had a lot of work to do. His son would usually stay at home with Reno or Lord. Baron always staying with William. Other times his son would stay at the facility with him, but it wasn't a fit place for the kid, especially since William was always bustling about, very busy with his work. He kept up the smoking when he was stressed, but his son was desperately trying to get him to stop. To this day, William spends more time at the apartment than he does at the facility, mainly working with his father and working under Kanashi, who decided he was going to take over the business, thus making him next in line for the fortune and the whole facility. William didn't mind, he was already promised that he could keep the job with the family. So far, things were good, but his nightmares continued and he was lonely. Despite what Kanashi, Rose, Mirun, and his own child said, William refused to look for love again. It hurt, it was painful, and he didn't want it. He didn't need it. He was fine.
