Simon is a very confusing person. He is nice and friendly, loyal and compassionate, sadistic and ruthless, an honest man and a liar. Why all the personality twist? The reason is because he is a mercenary. Raised as a top mercenary, he has had a lot of things twist his mind. Let's break him down bit by bit and see where he stands in everything about him. He is a rather easy person to understand, once you get past his quirks and the walls he spent years building up.
On the outside, Simon appears to be a casual, reckless, care-free young man that would rather sleep or spend his days goofing off. This is one of the personalities he has spent a long time mastering. He finds that it helps him draw in clients, or confuse his targets. It makes it easier to strike. However, this part of him is what most anyone would see, ever. Unless they are being killed by him or captured, or if they get close to him. Which is hard to do, he doesn't get close to people easily.
The second wall is his sadistic and ruthless side. This part comes out mostly when he has the pleasure of hurting or killing someone. This is the side that will lick the knife clean of blood while the person is slowly dying. Simon is really good at hiding this side, being able to keep it under control, especially when he knows that it is not time to strike. However, this side gives him a lot of trouble when he starts to feel something for someone. In a 'more than friends' sort of way. He likes to hurt others and to see their pain, it helps him to forget his own. But most people can't stand his pain and end up leaving, one reason that he has the third wall.
Being cold and distant is the third wall someone would have to break down to get to him, who he really is. As soon as anyone can stand the pain he gives them, they are met with this barrier. He will try his best to push everyone and anyone away, especially those that he feels are getting close to them. He will abuse them to any extent, but not kill them. At this point, he is pretty much incapable of killing that one person that gets this far. If they can stand him for long enough and slowly break him down, they finally meet wall four with a mix of three still standing.
The fourth wall is with a mix of three's bricks. He is silent, depressed, cold, and still trying to push people away. Some would call this a depression stage where he doesn't want anyone near him. However, he openly welcomes warmth when he breaks down into a crying mess, while still mumbling insults and other things to try and make the person leave him alone. If anyone is still stupid enough to try and get through to him, they will meet his last wall. The fifth one.
Warm, loving, loyal, honest, and open is the fifth wall. This was who he was before he built up all his walls leading to him. He is affectionate and kind to the one that manages to make it this far, and no job can ever make him betray this person. This wall is where it ends. There is nothing beyond it, you could call it his heart. His soul. Who he is deep down. He is almost like a lost child without any friend in the world, only wanting someone to find him and to tell him everything will be alright.
History:
Born and raised in an orphanage, he was the bastard child of one of the nuns. She had been brutally raped and beaten, being left with him. It was against her will to get rid of her child. So, with the aid of the nuns that thought her to be doing the right thing, she gave birth in the orphanage bathroom. Not the most sanitary, but it would do. She held him close and did anything any mother would do: raise him properly. Or, as properly as she could. He was a healthy boy, that much was certain, and he played well with others. But the day finally came when his father came to claim him. The nun fought for her son, literally, getting beaten once again with the other nuns dragging her away, while Simon was parted with his loved mother. His father wasn't abusive towards him, but he was stern on a train ride, taking Simon to only Arceus knew where.
The next thing Simon knew, was that he was face to face with a school created for mercenaries. It was here that Simon began to learn how to craft his personality to fit people best, namely, their targets. Practicing on dolls and puppets, he became a master at knives, being able to kill people swiftly with them, or painfully slow. During practice on a live person, a man on death row, Simon discovered his love of hurting people. He didn't kill the man, instead Simon got off on it. This scared his fellow classmates, but interested his teachers. He cut the man slowly with the knife, only doing shallow cuts, so the chances of a scar was slim. Apparently, he didn't like his prey marked.
For several more years, he had graduated at the top of his class and became one of the most deadly mercenaries in the school. The problem? He didn't like missions. They had never given him a Pokemon in fear that he would hurt it, while all the other students got their very own Pokemon. Simon was slightly hurt at this, but he would never hurt Pokemon. Human? Yes. Pokemon/Human? Yes. Pokemon? No. He had studied a long time over types of Pokemon. Simon soon discovered his favorites: dragon and dark type Pokemon. Dragons because they were strong, yet loyal. Dark types because they were misunderstood like him.
Before his final year, Simon had created each one of his walls carefully, to prevent himself from getting hurt like the others. All the other students were to easily hurt, their feelings were soft and squishy. Simon? He didn't want to be like them, he wanted to be different. He had come to the conclusion that no one would understand him, because of his history, because of his feelings. Shutting himself off from the world, he put on the happy mask and hid, letting anyone that got to close get cut by the knives he hid in his clothes. Some would say that he could surpass the master of knife throwing that went to the same school. Others say he was trained by that person. Either way, Simon is sure to keep well away from Thornfield, and no one knows why.
After he graduated and was put up for hire, he found work to not pay enough for his expenses. He then took up Pokemon Selling. He would catch Pokemon then sell them for profit. He wasn't a hunter, even thought he was good at tracking Pokemon. He had found that people would buy any Pokemon, no matter what. Some people were just greedy, and he would use their greed to his advantage.
Later, he had found himself standing outside Professor Flame's lab, ready to get his first Pokemon. He was lonely and needed a friend, so, he wanted a Pokemon to keep him company. His hopes rested on a dragon or dark type, but at this point, he was willing to take anything. Something that he could talk to, something to help him release the pain in tears or in talking. Something he could love like family, something...to remind him of mother and the soft Pokemon she had living with her. Like the Pokemon that kept him company, the Zoroark that helped her work. He didn't care what Pokemon it was, he just knew he needed something to hug when he felt down.
